Some Fiji Facts and Pictures

Fiji lies approximately ten hours flying time from the US West Coast, three hours from New Zealand and four hours from Australia. "It is  time to stop and smell the tropical flowers."

The Fiji Islands comprise approximately 300-plus islands scattered over 1,290,000 square kilometers of clear blue ocean. The two main population centers are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. The majority of the population is clustered around Suva (the capital) and Nadi (the site of the international airport). Many of the larger hotels chains like the Sheraton have a major presence on Viti Levu. This is where the tourists come.

However, for those of us wanting to escape the "tourist rut",  the islands of the north which include Vanua Levu offer a look at an area that has a natural beauty and  has not yet been spoiled by tourism.  This is the same South Pacific that for the last century has captured the imagination of writers and movie makers alike.  The island of Vanua Levu offers snorkeling, diving, fishing, sailing, and hiking in the rain forest, and our cottage offers sitting on the veranda, rum-smoothie in hand.
